Auction of Seized Property
Drug tax laws provide that property seized from a “dealer” to pay a drug tax assessment must be sold at public auction. The Department currently has a contract with Purple Wave of Manhattan to do these auctions. Bidding may be done by anyone, either in person at their facility in Manhattan on the day of the auction or in advance on their internet website at: www.purplewave.com
If the assessment has been appealed, the Department will store the seized property until the appeal has been resolved. If the “dealer” prevails in the appeal, the property will be returned to the “dealer.” If the Department prevails, the property will be transported to Purple Wave’s facility in Manhattan for auction.
